FEAR:
THE UNKNOWN

“FEAR IS THE GREATEST EMOTION. ITS WHAT MAKES US HUMAN”

Textile Deep Skill research investigations. End goal was to challenge myself as a CMF designer to drive innovative and have a fluent textile collection with a deeper meaning and that holds significant. Whilst learning and adapting new skills.

Our Deepest Fears

As part of my master’s degree I explored the theme of “our deepest fears’ through the medium of textile and surface design. I wanted to provoke a personal response and create an individual collection that would inspire thought and interaction. Fear can be viewed as a taboo subject and I was curious to see how the public would respond to the exploration of my fears and, in turn, lead them to questioning their own.

I used a selection of textiles processes, such as print, knit and weave in a particular way that would emulate the uncomfortableness of the subject. I experimented with different finishings to create a distorted texture to echo such cognitive dissonances. The texture created when touched had an unsettling effect. This was further amplified with the disturbing personal images of vulnerability in the text.
